With Cumbria Business Portal's site editor software you can, In an area like a News Column you can add eCommerce navigation which takes the user to the top level catagories.
 
Again you will be able to chose whether the link is secure or insecure. For maximum SE friendliness, choose insecure links, once the customer adds an item to the 'basket' the system changes to the secure server automatically.

Underneath your existing navigation or in the right hand column of your template (if you have three columns) click on an 'insert' button and from the drop down menu choose the option for Navigation Ecommerce.
 
Below is an image showing the settings you should use to add a vertical navigation list showing the main category list for your online shop and using 'SE friendly' links.
