The Cartmel Peninsula Team Ministry is part of the Windermere Deanery in the Diocese of Carlisle. The Team Ministry consists of clergy and laity who carry out the Church of England's work in the South Lakes area of Cumbria. We are very fortunate to have some beautiful churches and locations in our area and visitors are always welcome to view our churches, worship with us and share in our fellowship. Being part of our church family is about;- building friendship and fellowship
- enjoying who we are and what we do
- helping our communities, young and old alike, and of course those in between!
- caring for all - and
Church does not have to be "morbid" or dull. We have fun at our church services, share jokes and dare we say it, some "tall stories" from time to time. Yes, we worship through our services, but again worship is enjoyable, child and family friendly.
It's true - even worship can be fun!
You only have to listen to some of Bishop James's sermons and other ministers and to the funny stories they use in their sermons and during our services. Frightened of Church?Over the years the Church has been it's own worst enemy at times. Many forms of worship and fellowship have been stuck in a time warp and have become unsuitable for the 21st century and what has become known as the nuclear family.
A recent survey found that hundreds of thousands of people would like to come to church - but they are a little afraid - of walking through the door to a service
- of feeling uncomfortable when they do enter church
- of not understanding what's going on
That is our fault - not yours!if you have felt like this, we really are sorry - we have not been like that deliberately, and we can assure you that we welcome visitors to our congregations so why not come and visit us, meet up with us and have a chat. Come to our services and join in with us - we are sure you will find us welcoming and helpful for those who do not know what is going on during services. We have also been afraid!Yes it's true - we have been afraid of asking you to come and join us. That same survey found that not only are thousands of people afraid of coming to church, (for whatever reason) we ourselves have been too afraid to invite people we know to come to church with us.
Is that not silly?
For many years the Church and those of us who are regular attendees at church has be slated so much by the Non-believers like Richard Dawkins and his ilk that we have been somewhat embarrassed to say to even those we know - "would you like to come to church with me on Sunday?"
Christianity and church bashing has almost become the norm, and its mostly by those who do not know what we stand for and what we do.
But again that is our fault!
If you have been put off by the Christianity bashing brigade - then come and talk to us, join us for a service, some coffee and a drink of sherry or wine after the service and for friendship.
Atheism can't bring you that.
As this website is populated over the coming weeks with information about all our churches you will be able to see when we have something going on and you can come and join in with us. That does not have to be at a church service, come to one of our events, you will find them enjoyable and you will be able to get to know us before you try our services.
Those of us that go to church regularly enjoy life as much if not more than those who do not come to church. We enjoy the good things in life, watching TV, going for a pint, eating out, watching movies, watching and taking part in sports.
We like being alive!
The only difference between us and those who do not come to church is....we also enjoy being part of God's family and all the support, friendship and fellowship that this brings.
We would say to those who can not experience this - you don't know what you are missing!
Come and join us - and welcome!
