Used for: Both plantains have valuable healing properties. It is a gentle expectorant whole soothing inflamed and sore membranes making it ideal for coughs and mild bronchitis. Its astringency aids in diarrhoea, haemorrhoids and cystitis where there is bleeding (David Hoffman)
 
Plantain is useful for urinary tract infections; the aucubin helps the secretion of uric acid from the kidneys. The apigenin and baicalein are anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic. Good internally for all inflammations including hepatitis and bacillary dysentery. Leaves applied externally to antidote bites and stings.
