What is Action Learning?

Action Learning is arguably one of the most dynamic ways of developing people and businesses. The processes were developed originally by Professor Reg Revans, who noticed that people learned better in groups and when their learning activities were focussed by action learning.

In her book, 'Action Learning: A Practical Guide', Krystyna Weinstein tells us that "Action Learning is a process underpinned by a belief in individual potential; a way of learning from our actions, and from what happens to us, and around us, by taking the time to question, understand and reflect, to gain insights, and consider how to act in future".

What does Action Learning involve?

Action Learning is about "Learning" and "Doing" but working in small groups who work together on a confidential basis through issues; problems; opportunites; challenges; creative ideas; quality or innovation, in fact anything that needs improving .
 
Action learning involves working with colleagues, other business owners and peers in focussed teams or groups to achieve successful learning outcomes to problems, issues, ideas, innovations & projects that can't be solved by the usual methods.
 
Action Research; is the background work and reseach carried on to support the learning process and bring new ideas and concepts to the table, or to establish a benchmark from where to start the processes you are getting involved in. Action Learning and Action Research can be used extensively in many degree courses. The Learner and Researcher becomes 'one' as the processes are used.
 
Learners and researchers use a questionning approach to facilitate understanding and to change old habits.
