Why did we start the Action Learning Campus?

Following a number of requests from students and clients we decided to build a resource dedicated to promoting Action Learning, Action Research, Creativity and Management within small businesses. These powerful tools allow individuals to make a tangible difference to a business by empowering them to learn by doing.
 
How many of you have learned to play a musical instrument? It struck me recently, whilst learning guitar, that I only really LEARN when I practise the exercises I've been shown during my lesson (using action learning). It's not the lesson (or course) that makes me a good guitarist although it helps to make sure I'm doing something right, it is the practise and dedication to playing something over and over again until I do get it right.
 
The golfer Arnold Palmer was once accused of being lucky by an interviewer over some shots he had played during a tournement. Palmer replied by saying - 'You know, it's funny how lucky I get the more I practice'!
 
So would this be the same for Management?
 
Does a fancy course make you a better manager?
 
It might for a short period of time but will only make a real difference if you practise and keep on using the new techniques you've learned. If you don't use it, you lose it and just go back to the old ways of doing things after a week or two.
