Creativity - What is it?

To be Creative is defined as having the ability to be create, is charaterised by orginality of thought, having or showing imagination or an ability to stimulate imagination.

Why is Creativity Important?

One of our strongest assets as a nation, in communities and in business is the inventiveness and creativity of our people.

People have ideas - not businesses, people learn - not businesses and creativity forms the basis of our 'Knowledge Capital'.

Knowledge Capital is the ideas and inventions which feed the growth of industry and commerce. Managers in the public and private sectors are desperately seeking the right people, those who can find solutions not problems. The importance of creativity in thought and actions cannot be overstated for what many of us lack is clear and effective thinking driven by creativity and imagination.

Can we learn to be creative?

We are born creative, it is what has made human-kind so successful in the evolutionary stakes.

Often what we need to learn is how and when to apply our creative nature and abilities. In business we need to have focussed creativity which has time boundaries and parameters otherwise an open programme of creativity may well result in nothing except interesting thought and conclusions.

We can learn techniques which help us to be creative, innovative and productive and from this process comes Effective Thinking.

'The problems that we have created cannot be solved at the level of thinking that created them'
Albert Einstein (1879-1955)
