We have spent the last two years working with our local community to make sure that our area does not become saturated with holiday homes and that in the years to come we can make sure that our young people have homes that they can afford and jobs close to home.
 
The Internet is a superb medium for bringing communities together with a common purpose and providing motivation for all manner or new ideas to improve our social, family and working lives.

Major changes are afoot in local government and Cumbria could well become a single unitary authroity with Parish Councils taking on more responsibilities for their own area than they currently do.
 
We see this a fantastic opportunity to use the Internet and a community website to help people take control of their own and their community's destiny.

We can all make a difference in making our communities a better place to live and work. All it needs is a focus point for everything to happen and the community website is fast becoming that focus point.
 
One village working on its own often has an up-hill struggle with bureaucrats and other organisations, but when 2, 3 or more villages join together their power and influence is greatly multiplied.

Ideas for your community to work on

If you form a not for profit company it is possible that funding can be available from time to time to help with projects for the local community and in the future it could be possible for such a body to be able to take over land and build and rent their own housing for locals, discrete business parks for local small businesses and craftsmen and women to start and grow a business. All of which would bring employment for our young people and where they are fit enough, for the older inhabitants as well.

How much does it cost?

You can set up a community website for as little as £199 or £399 per annum, depending on what you want to do and whether you want to take on the job of creating your own template and layouts. This includes our standard hosting packages for brochure/information websites and eCommerce hosting.
 
However, we can get you started and provide training for those who will be keeping the website updated. We would sit down with you and work out what it is you want to achieve and what that will cost. Where possible we can point you in the direction of help with costs, but this will depend very much on what cash is available at any given time.
 
Funds can be raised in the community and we can help you with ideas on what events to run etc. The best thing to do is talk to us and we can then give you some idea of what to start budgeting for.

Usually in a viallge or group of villages the elderly tend to be catered for with clubs and events often run by the church or other such community group. However, not all the age groups have something that they can contribute to or atttend for their own benefit.
 
The kind of things we are taking about could be created under the umbrella of a not for profit company which would allow that community to take control of events from housing to job creation for locals; clubs for all ages and tastes; community fund raising; good causes and probably most important of all Fund and a feeling of belonging.

Helping to preserve local history and working with the community

Here we see a photo of the Leven Valley History Society on a site visit. Lately they have been working with government and non-government agencies on helping preserve local monuments like the old Iron Manufacturing and Gunpowder works.
